Antonio Pinto (City of God, McFarland, USA, Senna, Lord of War, Amy, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind) has composed the original music for the new Netflix original film Awake. The movie is directed by Mark Raso (Kodachrome, Copenhagen) and stars Gina Rodriguez, Ariana Greenblatt, Frances Fisher, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Barry Pepper, Shamier Anderson,Finn Jones, Lucius Hoyos and Gil Bellows. The sci-fi thriller takes place after a global event wipes out humanity’s ability to sleep and follows a troubled ex-soldier as she fights to save her family as society and her mind spiral into chaos. The director also co-wrote the screenplay with his brother Joseph Raso (Z-O-M-B-I-E-S). Paul Schiff (Rushmore, My Cousin Vinny, How It Ends) is producing the project. Awake will premiere this Wednesday, June 9 exclusively on Netflix.
Pinto also has David Schurmann’s Aleppo coming up. His other recent projects include Apple TV+’s The Mosquito Coast, which has just been renewed for a second season, Reinaldo Marcus Green’ Joe Bell, which premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 23, 2021 by Roadside Attractions, as well as Edson Oda’s Nine Days, which premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival and will be released in select theaters on July 30 by Sony Pictures Classics.
