Nainita Desai (For Sama, Fierce Queens, Enemy Within, Darkness Visible, Untamed Romania) has composed the original music for the new BBC series Unprecedented: Theatre from a State of Isolation. The show features more than 10 new plays, which were written in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and rehearsed/filmed using digital conferencing technology. Among the participating actors are Gemma Arterton, James Norton, Lennie James, Julian Barratt, Rory Kinnear, Meera Syal and Alison Steadman. The plays will respond to how our understanding and experiences of community, education, work, relationships, family, culture, climate and capitalism are evolving on an unprecedented scale. The project is produced by British theatre company Headlong, in association with Century Films. Unprecedented: Theatre from a State of Isolation will premiere next Tuesday, May 26 in the UK on BBC Four and will also be available to stream on BBC iPlayer as part of BBC Arts’ Culture in isolation two days later.
Desai also has the Netflix original series Bad Boy Billionaires coming up. She has also recently scored the feature documentary The Reason I Jump, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is currently awaiting a release date.
