Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Shape of Water, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Godzilla, The King’s Speech, Philomena, The Queen) has composed the original score for the upcoming Swedish/French political thriller Eagles of the Republic. The film is written and directed by Tarik Saleh (Metropia, The Contractor) and stars Fares Fares, Lyna Khoudri, Zineb Triki and Amr Waked. The movie marks the third installment’s in Saleh’s Cairo trilogy and follows Egypt’s most adored actor who is pressured to star in a film commissioned by the highest authorities and, as he finds himself thrown into the inner circle of power, begins an affair with the mysterious wife of the general overseeing the film. Alexandre Mallet-Guy (A Hero, The Salesman), Linus Stöhr Torell (Sune vs. Sune), Linda Mutawi and Johan Lindström are producing the project. Krister Linder has previously scored the first two parts of the Cairo trilogy, The Nile Hilton Incident and Boy from Heaven (aka Cairo Conspiracy). Eagles of the Republic will premiere this month at the Cannes Film Festival and is scheduled to be released in French theaters on October 22.
As previously reported, Desplat also has Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme , Gareth Edwards’ Jurassic World: Rebirth and Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein coming up.
