Three new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this week:
Opening in most theaters is the monster movie Godzilla: King of the Monsters directed by Mike Dougherty and starring Vera Farmiga, Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins, Kyle Chandler and Millie Bobby Brown. The film’s original music is composed by Bear McCreary (10 Cloverfield Lane, The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica, Outlander). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening wide is the biographical musical drama Rocketman directed by Dexter Fletcher and starring Taron Egerton, Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, Gemma Jones and Bryce Dallas Howard. Matthew Margeson (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Eddie the Eagle) has composed the film’s original score. Interscope Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the Elton John songs featured in the movie performed by Egerton, as well as an original song performed by John & Egerton. Also opening nationwide is the psychological thriller Ma directed by Tate Taylor and starring Octavia Spencer, Juliette Lewis, Diana Silvers, Luke Evans, McKaley Miller, Missi Pyle, Corey Fogelmanis, Gianni Paolo and Dante Brown. The film’s original music is composed by Gregory Tripi (Manhunt: Unabomber, Rememory, The Fix, Dark Places). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Opening in limited release is the thriller Domino directed by Brian De Palma and starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Carice van Houten and Guy Pearce. Pino Donaggio (Dressed to Kill, Carrie, Body Double, Blow Out, Passion) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. The movie follows a Copenhagen police officer who seeks justice for his partner’s murder by an ISIS member and gets unwittingly caught in a cat and mouse chase with a duplicitous CIA agent. The thriller is being released in theaters and on VOD by Saban Films.
Also opening in select U.S. theaters is the Russian biographical drama Leto directed by Kirill Serebrennikov and starring Teo Yoo, Irina Starshenbaum, Roman Bilyk, Filipp Avdeev, Alexandr Gorchilin, Alexander Kuznetsov, Nikita Efremov, Julia Aug and Elena Korenev. Milan Records released a soundtrack album featuring songs by the Russian bands Zveri and Kino, T. Rex, The Velvet Underground & more. Check out our previous news article for the full album details. Also opening in limited release is the Egyptian comedy drama Yomeddine written and directed by A.B. Shawky and stars Rady Gamal, Ahmed Abdelhafiz, Shoq Emara, Hany El-Tabei, Yasser El-Ayouti, Galal El Ashry and Mohamed Abdelazim. The film’s original music is composed by Omar Fadel (Day One). sonaBLAST! Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last year when the movie opened overseas. Already playing in select theaters since this past Wednesday is the romantic comedy Always Be My Maybe directed by Nahnatchka Khan and starring Ali Wong, Randall Park, Keanu Reeves, Michelle Buteau, Vivian Bang, Karan Soni, Charlyne Yi, Daniel Dae Kim, James Saito, Lyrics Born and Susan Park. Michael Andrews (Donnie Darko, Bridesmaids, Bad Teacher) & Greyboy have composed the film’s original score. BMG has released a 3-track single featuring the rap songs by Park’s fictional band Hello Peril.
