Three new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the live-action adaptation of Disney’s Dumbo directed by Tim Burton and starring Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Eva Green, Alan Arkin, Finley Hobbins, Nico Parker, Roshan Seth, Deobia Oparei, Joseph Gatt and Sharon Rooney. The film’s original music is composed by Danny Elfman (Batman, Alice in Wonderland, Spider-Man, The Nightmare Before Christmas). Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as two covers of the song Baby Mine, including an end credits version by Arcade Fire. Also opening wide is the comedy The Beach Bum written and directed by Harmony Korine and starring Matthew McConaughey, Snoop Dogg, Isla Fisher, Stefania Lavie Owen, Zac Efron, Martin Lawrence and Jimmy Buffett. John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, Iron Man 2, The Jungle Book, Elf) has composed the film’s original score. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring selections of the composer’s score, as well as songs by Jimmy Buffet, Gordon Lightfoot, Stephen Bishop & others. Also opening nationwide is the faith-based drama Unplanned directed by Chuck Konzelman & Cary Solomon and starring Ashley Bratcher, Brooks Ryan and Robia Scott. The film’s music is credited to Blake Kanicka. Matthew West has contributed the original title song, which is now available to download on Amazon. Opening in limited release is the period drama The Chaperone directed by Michael Engler and starring Elizabeth McGovern, Haley Lu Richardson, Géza Röhrig, Campbell Scott, Andrew Burnap, Victoria Hill, Miranda Otto, Robert Fairchild, Matt McGrath and Blythe Danner. Marcelo Zarvos (Fences, Wonder, The Affair, The Good Shepherd, Enough Said) has composed the film’s original music. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as tracks by The Sundown Stompers, Vince Giordano & The Nighthawks & others. Also opening in limited release is the indie drama Diane written and directed by Kent Jones and starring Mary Kay Place, Jake Lacy, Andrea Martin, Estelle Parsons, Deirdre O’Connell, Joyce Van Patten, Phyllis Somerville, Glynnis O’Connor and Paul McIsaac. The film’s original music is composed by Jeremiah Bornfield (Hitchcock/Truffaut). No word on a soundtrack release. The movie follows a woman struggling to help her drug-addicted son while dealing with a simmering guilt that stems from an old transgression. Also opening in select theaters is the crime thriller A Vigilante written and directed by Sarah Daggar Nickson and starring Olivia Wilde, Morgan Spector, Kyle Catlett, CJ Wilson, Tonye Patano, Chuck Cooper, Betsey Adam and Judy Marte. Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans (Boy Erased, Enemy, The Gift, Ozark, Fear the Walking Dead) have composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been released. Also opening in select cities is the indie comedy Making Babies written and directed by Josh Huber and starring Eliza Coupe, Steve Howey, Bob Stephenson, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Ed Begley Jr and Glenne Headly. The film’s original music is composed by Keegan DeWitt (Hearts Beat Loud, The Hero, I’ll See You in My Dreams, Divorce) has composed the film’s original music. The movie follows a couple as they explore the daunting world of medical, spiritual, and homeopathic methods to conceive a child. Another limited release this week is the drama The Burial of Kojo written and directed by Blitz the Ambassador (aka Samuel “Blitz” Bazawule) who also composed the film’s original music. A soundtrack album featuring the score was released today.
