Tyler Bates has been tapped to score the upcoming USA original series The Purge. The show is created by James DeMonaco based on his hit movie franchise and stars Gabriel Chavarria, Lili Simmons, Lee Tergesen, Jessica Garza, Amanda Warren, Colin Woodell, Hannah Emily Anderson and William Baldwin. The drama revolves around a 12-hour period when all crime, including murder, is legal and follows several seemingly unrelated characters living in a small city. Jason Blum (Get Out, Paranormal Activity, Insidious) is executive producing the Blumhouse Television and Platinum Dunes production with Michael Bay (Transformers, Armageddon) & Brad Fuller (A Quiet Place, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and Sebastien K. Lemercier. Anthony Hemingway (Red Tails) has directed the pilot episode. The Purge will premiere on September 4, 2018 on USA. Visit the official show website for updates.
Bates (Guardians of the Galaxy, Deadpool 2, 300, Watchmen) also has the action comedy The Spy Who Dumped Me (to be released on August 3) and Emilio Estevez’s drama The Public (co-scored with Joanne Higginbottom and premiering in September at the Toronto Film Festival) coming up. The composer also continues to score Netflix’s The Punisher, which will return for its second season in 2019.
