Three new movies are opening nationwide this week:
Opening in most theaters is the heist comedy Ocean’s 8 directed by Gary Ross and starring Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson and Awkwafina. The film’s original music is composed by Daniel Pemberton (Steve Jobs, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., All the Money in the World). Also opening wide is the horror thriller Hereditary written and directed by Ari Aster and starring Toni Collette, Milly Shapiro, Gabriel Byrne, Alex Wolff and Ann Dowd. Colin Stetson (Blue Caprice, Outlaws and Angels, Lavender) has composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening nationwide is the sci-fi action thriller Hotel Artemis written and directed by Drew Pearce and starring Jodie Foster, Sterling K. Brown, Sofia Boutella, Jeff Goldblum, Brian Tyree Henry, Jenny Slate, Zachary Quinto, Charlie Day and Dave Bautista. The film’s original music is composed by Cliff Martinez (Drive, Traffic, Contagion, The Knick, Game Night). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Opening in limited release is the musical comedy drama Hearts Beat Loud co-written and directed by Haley and starring Nick Offerman, Kiersey Clemons, Ted Danson, Sasha Lane, Blythe Danner and Toni Collette. Keegan DeWitt (Divorce, Gemini, Morris from America) has composed the film’s original score and songs. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. Also opening in limited release is the documentary Won’t You Be My Neighbor? directed by Morgan Neville about America’s favorite neighbor: Mister Fred Rogers. The film’s original music is composed by Jonathan Kirkscey. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as classic songs performed by Rogers. Also opening in select theaters is the psychological thriller Nancy written and directed by Christina Choe and starring Andrea Riseborough, J. Smith-Cameron, Ann Dowd, John Leguizamo and Steve Buscemi. Peter Raeburn (Woodshock) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. The movie follows a woman who becomes increasingly convinced she was kidnapped as a child. The thriller premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is being released by Samuel Goldwyn Films.
Also opening in select cities is the action thriller 211 written and directed by York Shackleton and starring Nicolas Cage, Cory Hardrict, Michael Rainey Jr., Dwayne Cameron, Ori Pfeffer, Weston Cage, Sophie Skelton and Alexandra Dinu. The film’s original music is composed by Frederik Wiedmann (Field of Lost Shoes, Dying of the Light, Green Lantern: The Animated Series, Hangman). No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie is being released in theaters and on VOD by Momentum Pictures.
Opening in select theaters while also premiering on Netflix today is the teen comedy Alex Strangelove written and directed by Craig Johnson and starring Daniel Doheny, Madeline Weinstein, Antonio Marziale, Joanna Adler and William Ragsdale. Nathan Larson (Boys Don’t Cry, Dirty Pretty Things, A Walk in the Woods) has composed the film’s original score. No word on a soundtrack release.
