Deadline is reporting that Mark Ronson is composing original songs for the upcoming movie musical Songs of the Damned. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Adam Hashemi and follows a group of inmates who stage a musical as a way to escape from prison. Jason Mitchell is in talks to stars to star in the Anonymous Content production, which will be produced by Steve Golin (Spotlight, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), Tariq Merhab, Charlie Scully and Felipe Marino (The Wackness, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane). Ronson will also serve as an executive producer. Hashemi co-wrote the project’s screenplay with Emma Needell. Ronson has previously been involved in producing the music for several features, including co-scoring David Koepp’s Mortdecai and writing songs for 2011’s Arthur remake. Songs of the Damned is set to start production this fall and will be distributed in the U.S. by Orion Pictures.
