Christopher Lennertz is reteaming with director Tim Story on the upcoming Shaft sequel. The film stars Samuel L. Jackson & Jessie T. Usher as father and son, as well as Richard Roundtree, Alexandra Shipp, Regina Hall, Avan Jogia and Method Man. The movie centers on the young and old Shafts as they are are forced to team up. Jackson is reprising his role from John Singleton’s 2000 Shaft movie, which was scored by David Arnold and featured Isaac Hayes’ classic theme from the 1971 original film. Kenya Barris (Girls Trip, black-ish) has written the screenplay and is also producing the New Line Cinema production with John Davis (Predator, I, Robot, Waterworld). Lennertz has previously collaborated with Story on the director’s last several features, including the Ride Along and Think Like a Man movies. John Shaft is currently in post-production and is set to be released in U.S. theaters on June 14, 2019 by Warner Bros. Pictures. Netflix has picked up international rights and will release the movie internationally after its domestic theatrical debut.
Lennertz’s upcoming projects also include the comedies Uncle Drew and The War with Grandpa. He also continues to co-score The CW’s Supernatural and has recently composed the music for the first season of Netflix’s Lost in Space.
