The only new movie opening nationwide this weekend is the action adventure Maze Runner: The Death Cure directed by Wes Ball and starring Dylan O’Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Ki Hong Lee, Giancarlo Esposito, Aidan Gillen, Barry Pepper, Will Poulter and Patricia Clarkson. The film’s original music is composed by John Paesano (Daredevil, The Defenders, When the Game Stands Tall, My All American) who also scored the first two installments in the series. Opening in limited release is the comedy drama Please Stand By directed by Ben Lewin and starring Dakota Fanning, Toni Collette, Alice Eve and Patton Oswalt. Heitor Pereira (Despicable Me, Minions, The Smurfs, If I Stay, Beverly Hills Chihuahua) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. The movie follows a young autistic woman who runs away from her caregiver in order to boldly go and deliver her 500-page Star Trek script to a writing competition in Hollywood. Also opening in select cities is the comedy The Clapper written and directed by Dito Montiel and starring Ed Helms, Amanda Seyfried, Tracy Morgan, Adam Levine, Russell Peters and PJ Byrne. The film’s original music is composed by David Wittman (Fighting, The Son of No One, Empire State) and Jimmy Haun (Boulevard). No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie revolves around a man who works as a clapper in television and whose live gets destroyed. The comedy premiered at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival and is being released in theaters and on VOD by Momentum Pictures.
Also opening in select theaters and on VOD today is the indie drama American Folk written and directed by David Heinz and starring Joe Purdy, Amber Rubarth, Krisha Fairchild and David Fine. Purdy & Rubarth have composed the original songs for the movie and Ben Lovett (The Signal, The Ritual, Synchronicity, Black Rock) has composed the original score. The film’s original music is composed by Adam Dorn (The Perfect You) who previously scored 2016’s Kickboxer: Vengeance. No word on a soundtrack release. The movie is being released in theaters and on VOD by Well Go USA Entertainment.
