Lorne Balfe has been tapped to score the upcoming documentary Studio 54. The film is directed by Matt Tyrnauer (Citizen Jane: Battle for the City) and centers on on the pulsating epicenter of 1970s hedonism: a disco hothouse of beautiful people, drugs, and sex. The movie follows club owners Ian Schrager and Steve Rubell – two best friends from Brooklyn who conquered New York City – as they frame this history of the “greatest club of all time.” Tyrnauer is also producing the project with John Battsek (Searching for Sugar Man, How I Live Now, Restrepo) and Corey Reeser. Studio 54 will premiere in January at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival.
Balfe’s recent projects also include the second season of Netflix’s The Crown, which is premiering today, the second season of ITV’s Marcella, which will debut in 2018, the war drama 12 Strong (to be released in theaters on January 19, 2018 by Warner Bros. Pictures) and Rob Cohen’s The Hurricane Heist (set for a release on March 9, 2018 by Entertainment Studios).
