Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the family comedy directed by Sean Anders and starring Mark Wahlberg, Will Ferrell, John Lithgow, Mel Gibson, Linda Cardellini, Alessandra Ambrosio, John Cena, Scarlett Estevez and Owen Vaccaro. Michael Andrews (Donnie Darko, Bridesmaids, Bad Teacher, Freaks & Geeks, Funny People, The Big Sick) who previously scored the 2005 original film has composed the movie’s original score. Also opening wide is the thriller Murder on the Orient Express directed by Kenneth Branagh who also stars in the movie alongside Penelope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, Josh Gad, Derek Jacobi, Leslie Odom Jr., Michelle Pfeiffer, Daisy Ridley, Marwan Kenzari and Olivia Colman. The film’s original music is composed by Academy Award nominee Patrick Doyle (Sense and Sensibility, Cinderella, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Thor) has composed the film’s original music. Sony Masterworks has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score and an original song written by the composer (with lyrics by Branagh) and performed by Pfeiffer. Opening in New York and Los Angeles before expanding to more markets over the next couple of weeks is the comedy drama Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri written and directed by Martin McDonagh and starring Frances McDormand, Sam Rockwell, Woody Harrelson, Abbie Cornish, John Hawkes, Lucas Hedges and Peter Dinklage. Carter Burwell (Carol, Fargo, Twilight, True Grit) has composed the film’s original music. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as tracks by Joan Baez, Monsters of Folk, Townes Van Zandt and The Four Tops. Also opening in limited release is the supernatural thriller Thelma co-written and directed by Joachim Trier and starring Eili Harboe, Okay Kaya, Henrik Rafaelsen and Ellen Dorrit Petersen. The film’s original music is composed by Ola Flottum (Force Majeure) who previously scored the director’s previous features, Louder Than Bombs, Reprise and Oslo, August 31st . Also opening in select theaters is the action thriller Mayhem directed by Joe Lynch and starring Steven Yeun, Samara Weaving, Dallas Mark Roberts, Caroline Chikezie, Mark Stewart Frost and Kerry Fox. Steve Moore (The Guest, Camera Obscura, Cub, Don’t Knock Twice) has composed the film’s original music. Relapse Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music.
