UPDATE: Director Michael Dougherty mentioned on Twitter that Junkie XL is not scoring the film and GQ Magazine’s article is incorrect.

According to a recent article in GQ, Junkie XL (aka Tom Holkenborg) will be scoring the upcoming monster movie Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The film is directed by Michael Dougherty (Krampus, Trick ‘r Treat) and stars Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Ken Watanabe, O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Aisha Hinds. No plot details have been announced yet. Dougherty is writing the screenplay with Zach Shields (Krampus). Thomas Tull & Jon Jashni are producing the Legendary Entertainment production with Mary Parent (The Revenant, Pacific Rim) and Brian Rogers. Holkenborg has previously scored Legendary’s 300: Rise of the Empire and last year’s Spectral. Alexandre Desplat composed the music for Garth Edward’s 2014 Godzilla film. Godzilla: King of the Monsters is set to be released on March 22, 2019 by Warner Bros. Pictures.

As previously reported, Holkenborg also has Justice League and The Dark Tower coming up later this year.

  1. Edmund Meinerts says:

Really disappointed Dougherty’s usual collaborator Douglas Pipes wasn’t allowed along, as he’s a great composer. This reeks of studio interference.

    • Tor says:

God, could you imagine a Pipes score for a movie like this? Merde!

  2. Adam says:

Dougherty has denied this on Twitter. Junkie XL was listed on IMDB last year, and was eventually removed. Once again, this proves that nobody should rely on IMDB as a source, which GQ and many other websites apparently did.

  3. Drew says:

    This is fake news.

  4. richardhedski says:

RATS! Junkie is the best composer in the world right now. He should do it still!

  5. BB says:

Thank God! There are better composers to do this job.

  6. Brent Simon says:

I’m wondering if word got out that Junkie XL, Tom Holkenborg, was scoring a movie with Godzilla in it, and then those who published it assumed it would be Godzilla: King of the Monsters when it actually turned out to be Godzilla Vs. Kong all along. Haha!
