Adrian Johnston has been tapped to score the upcoming BBC limited series Cormoran Strike. The show is based J.K. Rowling’s bestselling crime novels, which she wrote under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, and stars Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger. The drama centers on a war veteran turned private detective operating out of a tiny office in London’s Denmark Street. The series comprises of The Cuckoo’s Calling, with three hour-long episodes and The Silkworm and Career of Evil, both with two hour-long episodes. Rowling is also executive producing the project with Neil Blair (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), Ruth Kenley-Letts and Elizabeth Kilgarriff (Poldark, Call the Midwife). Ben Richards (The Tunnel, Outcasts) wrote the scripts for The Cuckoo’s Calling and The Silkworm and Tom Edge (Lovesick) wrote Career of Evil. Cormoran Strike will premiere later this year in the BBC and will air in the U.S. on HBO.
Adrian Johnston Scoring BBC’s ‘Cormoran Strike’

I hope he does a great job with it because I’m really looking forward to seeing this series. I also hope they call it “Cormoran Strike” because it is a far better title than others I’ve heard they’re considering like “The Strike Series” or “The Cormoran Strike Mysteries”–both bad ideas since it waters it down into a more generic mix. I hope they stick with just the strong name. I hope that both the BBC and the HBO series can be shown at the same time (since I’m in the US and we usually have a long lag time before seeing the BBC shows.)
What,s that lovely song at the beginning cheers mo
Exemplary incidental music throughout. It is an excellent series of stories brought to life the the saucy garnish of Johnston’s tunes. Inventive, haunting and instantly accessible, I am very taken with them. Struggling to find them to hear outside of the show, though. Fingers crossed.
Has anyone managed to get that lovely instrumental theme?
Cant agree more! Especially the soundtrack of Silkworm episodes. Is anyone able to get the score?
