Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is Disney’s live action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast directed by Bill Condon and starring Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Kevin Kline, Josh Gad, Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ian McKellen, Audra McDonald and Emma Thompson. The film’s original music is composed by Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin). He also wrote the movie’s classic songs with Howard Ashman and the new songs with lyricist Tim Rice. Also opening wide is the horror thriller The Belko Experiment directed by Greg McLean, written and produced by James Gunn and starring Tony Goldwyn, John Gallagher Jr., Adria Arjona, Michael Rooker, John C McGinley, Sean Gunn and Melonie Diaz. Tyler Bates (Guardians of the Galaxy, 300, Watchmen, Dawn of the Dead) has composed the film’s original score. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as two songs performed by Jose Prieto and Gabriela Teran. Opening in limited release is the drama T2 Trainspotting directed by Danny Boyle and starring Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle. The film’s original score is composed by Rick Smith who previously scored Boyle’s Trance. Interscope Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie by artists including Iggy Pop, High Contrast, Young Fathers, Wolf Alice, Blondie, Queen, Underworld, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, The Clash & more. Also opening in select theaters is the drama Song to Song written and directed by Terrence Malick and starring Michael Fassbender, Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara and Natalie Portman. The movie features various songs and , as well as additional original music by Hanan Townshend who previously scored Malick’s To the Wonder and Knight of Cups. No soundtrack album has been released. The drama is set against the Austin, Texas music scene and follows two entangled couples as they chase success through a rock ‘n’ roll landscape of seduction and betrayal. Also opening in limited release is the crime thriller Mean Dreams directed by Nathan Morlando and starring Bill Paxton, Sophie Nélisse, Josh Wiggins and Colm Feore. Ryan Lott (aka Son Lux) (The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, Paper Towns) has composed the film’s original music. This Is Deru will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music on March 31. Also opening in select U.S. theaters is the German drama 13 Minutes directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel (Downfall, The Experiment) and starring Christian Friedel, Katharina Schüttler, Burghart Klaussner and Johann von Bülow. The film’s original music is composed by David Holmes (Ocean’s Eleven, Out of Sight, Haywire, Analyze That). No word on a soundtrack release. The drama, which centers on Georg Elser who built a bomb intended to take out Hitler and his henchman, premiered at the 2015 Berlin Film Festival and is being released stateside by Sony Pictures Classics. Another limited release this week is the comedy All Nighter directed by Gavin Wiesen and starring J.K. Simmons, Emile Hirsch, Analeigh Tipton, Taran Killam and Kristen Schaal. Alec Puro (The Art of Getting By, The Fosters, Sweet/Vicious, Higher Ground) has composed the film’s original music. Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score on March 24. Also opening in select U.S. theaters is the French drama Frantz written and directed by Francois Ozon and starring Paula Beer, Pierre Niney, Marie Gruber, Ernst Stötzner, Johann Von Bülow and Anton Von Lucke. The film’s original music is composed by Philippe Rombi who previously scored Ozon’s Swimming Pool, In the House, Young & Beautiful, Potiche and Angel.
