Gabriel Yared is reteaming with director Xavier Dolan on the upcoming drama The Death and Life of John F. Donovan. The film marks Dolan’s English-language debut and stars Kit Harington, Jessica Chastain, Natalie Portman, Susan Sarandon, Kathy Bates, Ben Schnetzer, Michael Gambon, Bella Thorne, Thandie Newton, Chris Zylka and Emily Hampshire. The movie takes place in the early 2000’s and centers on the tribulations of an American TV star in his late twenties and his correspondence with Rupert Turner, a young actor-to-be living with his mother in England. Dolan has also written the screenplay and is producing the project with Lyse Lafontaine for Lyla Films (Laurence Anyways) and Nancy Grant of Sons for Manual (Mommy, I Killed My Mother). Yared has previously scored Dolan’s features Tom at the Farm and this year’s It’s Only the End of the World. The Death and Life of John F. Donovan is currently in post-production and is expected to premiere in 2017.
Yared’s recent projects also include Terry George’s The Promise starring Christian Bale & Oscar Isaac. The movie premiered last month at the Toronto Film Festival and is currently awaiting a distribution deal.
