Theodore Shapiro is reteaming with writer/director John Hamburg on the upcoming comedy Why Him?. The film starring James Franco, Bryan Cranston, Zoey Deutch, Megan Mullally and Keegan-Michael Key follows a Midwestern dad who travels with his family to visit his daughter at college, and soon finds himself in a battle for her affections with her brash new tech billionaire boyfriend. Hamburg (Meet the Parents, Zoolander) has also written the screenplay with Ian Helfer (The Oranges). Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum, Real Steel) is producing the project for his 21 Laps Entertainment company, alongside Ben Stiller for Red Hour Films, Dan Levine (Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day) and Jonah Hill. Shapiro has previously scored Hamburg’s previous three feature directorial efforts, Safe Men, Along Came Polly and I Love You, Man. Shapiro’s latest project, Ghostbusters, will be opening nationwide this weekend. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score is now available on Sony Classical. His recent projects also include the action comedy Central Intelligence, which is now playing in theaters nationwide.
