Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the action adventure sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows directed by David Green, produced by Michael Bay and starring Megan Fox, Will Arnett, Stephen Amell, Tyler Perry, Noel Fisher, Jeremy Howard, Pete Ploszek, Alan Ritchson, Brian Tee and Stephen “Sheamus” Farrelly. The film’s original music is composed by Steve Jablonsky (Transformers, Ender’s Game, The Island, Pain & Gain). Paramount Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening wide is the romantic drama Me Before You directed by Thea Sherrock and starring Emilia Clarke, Sam Claflin, Janet McTeer, Charles Dance, Jenna Coleman, Matthew Lewis, Vanessa Kirby, Stephen Peacocke and Brendan Coyle. Craig Armstrong (Moulin Rouge!, The Great Gatsby, Love Actually, The Incredible Hulk) has composed the film’s original score. Interscope Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie by artists including Ed Sheeran, Imagine Dragons, Max Jury, HOLYCHILD, Jessie Ware, The 1975 & more. The third new wide release is the comedy Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping directed by Akiva Schaffer & Jorma Taccone and starring Andy Samberg, Schaffer, Taccone, Imogen Poots, Sarah Silverman, Tim Meadows, Maya Rudolph and Joan Cusack. The film’s original score is composed by Matthew Compton (MacGruber). Republic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie performed by The Lonely Island and such guest artists as P!nk, Seal, Emma Stone, Adam Levine, LINKIN PARK, Chris Redd and Akon. Opening in New York followed by a release in Los Angeles next weekend before expanding to more cities is the indie drama The Fits directed by Anna Rose Holmer and starring Royalty Hightower and the Q-Kidz Dance Team. Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans (The Gift, Martha Marcy May Marlene, Enemy, Last Days in the Desert) have composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. The movie follows a 11-year-old girl who is bewitched by the tight-knit dance team she sees practicing in the same Cincinnati gymnasium where she boxes and starts to absorb the dance routines and drills from a distance. The drama premiered at last year’s Venice Film Festival and is being released by Oscilloscope Laboratories. Visit the official movie website for more information.
Also opening in limited release is the thriller Urge directed by Aaron Kaufman and starring Justin Chatwin, Ashley Greene, Alexis Knapp, Bar Paly, Chris Geere, Nick Thune, Kea Ho, Danny Masterson and Pierce Brosnan. The film’s original music is composed by The Newton Brothers (Oculus, Life of Crime, Detachment). No soundtrack album has been released. Urge follows a group of young friends who experiment with a new designer drug that perilously diminishes one’s ability to control destructive urges. The thriller is being released by Lionsgate Premiere.
