Four new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the animated feature Kung Fu Panda 3 directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson & Alessandro Carloni and featuring the voices of Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen, Lucy Liu, Bryan Cranston, Kate Hudson, David Cross and J.K. Simmons. The film’s original music is composed by Hans Zimmer (The Lion King, Inception, The Dark Knight) who previously co-scored the first two parts in the series with John Powell. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as songs by The Vamps and Patrick Brasca feat. Jay Chou. Also opening wide is the disaster drama The Finest Hours directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Chris Pine, Casey Affleck, Ben Foster, Holliday Grainger, John Ortiz and Eric Bana. Carter Burwell (Twilight, Fargo, Carol, True Grit) has composed the film’s original music. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the end titles song Haul Away Joe performed by Kodaline. Also opening wide is the comedy Fifty Shades of Black directed by Michael Tiddes and starring Marlon Wayans, Kalli Hawk, Affion Crockett, Fred Willard, Mike Epps, Andrew Bachelor, Jane Seymour and Florence Henderson. The film’s original score is composed by Jim Dooley (Pushing Daisies, Obsessed, The Last Ship). IM Global has released two soundtracks, including an album featuring the movie’s songs by Skrilla Kones feat. Icy Black, Mr. Classic, Jordyn Kane, Love Kelli & more, as well as an album featuring Dooley’s score.
Opening in around 1200 theaters is the western Jane Got a Gun directed by Gavin O’Connor and starring Natalie Portman, Joel Edgerton, Noah Emmerich, Rodrigo Santoro, Boyd Holbrook and Ewan McGregor. Lisa Gerrard (Whale Rider, Gladiator) and Marcello De Francisci (Samsara) have composed the film’s original music. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score. Opening in Los Angeles following a limited release in New York last weekend is the French crime thriller Rabid Dogs (Enrages) directed by Eric Hannezo and starring Lambert Wilson, Guillaume Gouix, Virginie Ledoyen and Laurent Lucas. The film’s original music is composed by Laurent Eyquem (Copperhead, Winnie Mandela, Momentum, Rage).
