In addition to the nationwide expansion of The Revenant, the only movie opening wide is the supernatural thriller The Forest directed by Jason Zada, produced by David Goyer and starring Natalie Dormer, Taylor Kinney, Eoin Macken and Yukiyoshi Ozawa. The film’s original music is composed by Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica, The Boy, Outlander). Opening in limited release is the indie drama Anesthesia written and directed by Tim Blake Nelson who also stars in the film alongside Kristen Stewart, Sam Waterston, Glenn Close, Gretchen Mol, Tim Blake Nelson, Corey Stoll and Michael K. Williams. Jeff Danna (The Good Dinosaur, Tyrant, The Boondock Saints) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. Anesthesia revolves around the intersection of characters after the violent mugging of a Columbia University professor. Also opening in limited release is the thriller Diablo directed by Lawrence Roeck and starring Scott Eastwood, Walton Goggins, Camilla Belle, Adam Beach, Joaquim De Almeida and Danny Glover. The film’s original music is composed by Timothy Williams (Wild Horses, Walking with the Enemy). Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by Zella Day, Spindrift and Jenavive. Another limited release this week is the psychological thriller The Abandoned directed by Eytan Rockaway, written by Ido Fluk and starring Jason Patric, Louisa Krause and Mark Margolis. The film’s original music is composed by Max Aruj. No word on a soundtrack release. The Abandoned follows a struggling single mother who takes a nighttime security job in an abandoned apartment building with a sinister past.
