Wendy Melvoin and Jeff Russo are scoring the new NBC drama Shades of Blue. The show is created by Adi Hasak (3 Days to Kill, From Paris with Love) and stars Jennifer Lopez, Ray Liotta, Drea de Matteo, Warren Kole, Dayo Okeniyi, Vincent Laresca, Hampton Fluker and Sarah Jeffery. The series follows a female NYPD detective-turned-informant who must carefully straddle the line between work and family. Hasak and Lopez are also executive producing the Universal Television production with Jack Orman (ER), Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas (Maid in Manhattan, Mona Lisa Smile), Benny Medina (The Fosters), Ryan Seacrest and Nina Wass. Barry Levinson (Rain Man, Sleepers) has directed the first two episodes. Melvoin has previously composed the music for such shows as NBC’s Heroes, Showtime’s Nurse Jackie and the feature Dangerous Minds with Lisa Coleman. Russo’s other TV scoring credits include FX’s Fargo, CBS’ CSI: Cyber and Starz’s Power. The composer started his scoring career working for Melvoin & Coleman on NBC’s Crossing Jordan.
