Opening nationwide this weekend is the fantasy adventure Pan directed by Joe Wright and starring Hugh Jackman, Garrett Hedlund, Rooney Mara, Adeel Akhtar and Levi Miller. The film’s original music is composed by John Powell (How to Train Your Dragon, The Bourne Identity, Bolt, Shrek, Chicken Run). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the movie performed by the cast, and two songs by Lily Allen. Opening in New York and Los Angeles before expanding nationwide on October 23 is the biographical drama Steve Jobs directed by Danny Boyle, written by Aaron Sorkin and starring Michael Fassbender, Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen, Jeff Daniels, Katherine Waterston and Michael Stuhlbarg. Daniel Pemberton (The Man from U.N.C.L.E., The Counselor) has composed the film’s original music. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs featured in the movie by The Libertines, Bob Dylan and The Maccabees. Also opening in limited release is the psychological thriller Knock Knock directed by Eli Roth and starring Keanu Reeves, Lorenza Izzo, Ana de Armas, Ignacia Allamand, Aaron Burns and Colleen Camp. The film’s original music is composed by Manuel Riveiro who previously collaborated with the director on The Green Inferno and Aftershock. No soundtrack album has been announced. Knock Knock follows two beautiful young girls who walk into a married man’s life and turn a wild fantasy into his worst nightmare. Also opening in select theaters is the drama Trash directed by Stephen Daldry and starring Martin Sheen, Rooney Mara, Wagner Moura and Selton Mello. Antonio Pinto (City of God, Snitch, Lord of War, The Host, Senna, Amy) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. Trash follows three trash-picking boys from Rio’s slums who find a wallet and team up with two American missionaries to uncover political corruption while evading the police. The movie premiered at last year’s Rio de Janeiro Film Festival and is being released in theaters and on VOD by Focus World.
Also opening in select cities is the romantic comedy Big Stone Gap written and directed by Adriana Trigiani and starring Ashley Judd, Patrick Wilson, Whoopi Goldberg, John Benjamin Hickey, Jane Krakowski, Anthony LaPaglia and Jenna Elfman. The film’s original music is composed by John Leventhal. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the movie by artists including Ralph Stanley, If Birds Could Fly,Michael Trigiani and a track recorded for the film by Rosanne Cash. Another limited release this week is the horror comedy The Final Girls directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson and starring Taissa Farmiga, Malin Akerman, Alexander Ludwig, Nina Dobrev, Alia Shawkat, Thomas Middleditch, Adam Devine, Angela Trimbur, Chloe Bridges and Tory N. Thompson. Gregory James Jenkins has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been released. The Final Girls follows a girl grieving the loss of her horror movie star mother and gets mysteriously sucked into the world of her mother’s most famous horror movie. The comedy premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and is being released both in theaters and on VOD by Vertical Entertainment.
Also opening in limited release is the documentary A Faster Horse directed by David Gelb (Jiro Dreams of Sushi). The film’s original music is composed by Saunder Jurriaans & Danny Bensi (The Gift, Enemy, Martha Marcy May Marlene, The One I Love). A Faster Horse tells the story of the Ford Mustang, one of the world’s most iconic and recognizable cars and follows the team entrusted with upholding the legacy of the brand in creating the 2015 model. No word yet on a soundtrack release. The documentary premiered at this years Tribeca Film Festival and is being released by Gravitas Ventures.
