Two new movies are opening nationwide this week:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the action thriller Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation directed by Christopher McQuarrie and starring Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, Alec Baldwin and Sean Harris. The film’s original music is composed by Joe Kraemer (Jack Reacher, The Way of the Gun). Paramount Pictures and La-La Land Records are releasing a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. Already playing nationwide since this past Wednesday is the comedy reboot Vacation written and directed by Jonathan Goldstein & John Francis Daley and starring Ed Helms, Christina Applegate, Leslie Mann, Skyler Gisondo, Steele Stebbins, Chris Hemsworth, Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo. Mark Mothersbaugh (The LEGO Movie, 21/22 Jump Street, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) has composed the film’s original score. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film by such artists as Lindsey Buckingham, The Feud, Seals and Crofts, JD McPherson, Jarina De Marco, Christopher Blue, as well as a track by Mothersbaugh. Opening in limited release is the indie drama The End of the Tour directed by James Ponsoldt and starring Jason Segel, Jesse Eisenberg, Joan Cusack and Ron Livingston. The film’s original music is composed by Danny Elfman (Alice in Wonderland, Spider-Man, Batman, Edward Scissorhands). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as the songs from the film by R.E.M, Felt, Tracey Ullman, Fun Boy Three and Brian Eno. Also opening in select theaters is the documentary A Lego Brickumentary directed by Kief Davidson & Daniel Junge and narrated by Jason Bateman. John Jennings Boyd (Being Evel, 1982) has composed the film’s original music. No word yet on a soundtrack album. A Lego Brickumentary explores the impact of the Lego brick, its massive global fan base and the uses for it. The documentary premiered at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival and is being released by TWC-Radius in theaters and on VOD.
Also opening in select cities is the indie comedy drama Jenny’s Wedding directed by Mary Agnes Donoghue and starring Katherine Heigl, Tom Wilkinson, Linda Emond, Grace Gummer, Alexis Bledel, Sam McMurray and Diana Hardcastle. The film’s original music is composed by Brian Byrne (Albert Nobbs, The Good Doctor, Boychoir). Varese Sarabande will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music on September 25. Jenny’s Wedding follows a woman who causes a massive sea-change in the lives of her closely knit, highly conventional family when she finally decides to marry . Another limited release this week is the action adventure Northmen: A Viking Saga directed by Claudio Fäh and starring Ryan Kwanten, Tom Hopper, Ken Duken, Charlie Murphy, James Norton, Ed Skrein, Anatole Taubman and Johann Hegg. Marcus Trumpp (Mesrine: Killer Instinct & Public Enemy #1, The Woman in Black: Angel of Death) has composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as two songs by Amon Amarth and actor Darrell D’Silva. Check out our previous article for the full album details. Also opening in limited release is Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s 3D family adventure The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet based on the novel by Reif Larsen and starring Helena Bonham Carter, Kyle Catlett and Judy Davis. Denis Sanacore has composed the film’s original music. Sony Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music when the film opened overseas in 2013. Check out our soundtrack announcement for the full album details.
