Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the sci-fi thriller Chappie co-written and directed by Neill Blomkamp and starring Dev Patel, Hugh Jackman, Ninja and Yo-Landi Visser, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Sigourney Weaver and Sharlto Copley. The film’s original music is composed by Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight, Gladiator, Inception). Varese Sarabande will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score and additional music by Steve Mazzaro & Andrew Kawczynski digitally next Tuesday and physically on March 17. Also opening wide is the comedy drama The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel directed by John Madden and starring Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Dev Patel, Penelope Wilton, Celia Imrie, Ronald Pickup, Diana Hardcastle, David Strathairn and Richard Gere. Thomas Newman (The Shawshank Redemption, Finding Nemo, American Beauty) who previously scored the 2012 original movie has composed the film’s original music. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the movie. The third wide release this weekend is the comedy Unfinished Business directed by Ken Scott and starring Vince Vaughn, Tom Wilkinson, Dave Franco, Sienna Miller, Nick Frost and James Marsden. The film’s original music is composed by Alex Wurman (March of the Penguins, Hollywood Homicide, Talladega Nights, The Newsroom). Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs featured in the movie by Steed Lord, Bob Schneider, Redfoo & more next Tuesday, March 10. Opening in limited release is the documentary Merchants of Doubt directed by Robert Kenner and inspired by the book of the same title by Naomi Oreskes & Erik Conway. Mark Adler (Nobel Son, Bottle Shock) who previously scored the director’s documentary Food, Inc has composed the film’s original music. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the original song You Fooled Me by Eg White digitally earlier this week. Also opening in select cities is the indie drama Faults written and directed by Riley Sterns and starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Leland Orser, Beth Grant, Chris Ellis, Jon Gries and Lance Reddick. The film’s original music is composed by Heather McIntosh (Compliance, Z for Zachariah). No soundtrack album has been announced. Faults follows a cult member whose parents hire a deprogrammer to kidnap and rehabilitate her, sparking a battle of wits between the two. Another limited release this week is the thriller Kidnapping Mr. Heineken directed by Daniel Alfredson and starring Anthony Hopkins, Jim Sturgess, Sam Worthington and Ryan Kwanten. Lucas Vidal (Fast & Furious 6, The Raven, The Cold Light of Day, The Quiet Ones) has composed the film’s original music. Metropolis Movie Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening in limited release is the drama Two Men in Town directed by Rachid Bouchareb and starring Forest Whitaker, Harvey Keitel, Brenda Blethyn, Luis Guzman, Dolores Heredia and Ellen Burstyn. The film’s original music is composed by Eric Neveux (Intimacy, Borgia) who previously scored Bouchareb’s feature Just Like a Woman. Pathe Production has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last year when the film opened overseas.
