Theodore Shapiro and singer/songwriter Ryan Adams have composed the original music for the upcoming comedy drama Danny Collins. The film marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Dan Fogelman (Crazy, Stupid, Love., Tangled, Bolt, Last Vegas) and stars Al Pacino, Annette Bening, Jennifer Garner, Bobby Cannavale, Josh Peck and Christopher Plummer. The movie follows a rocker who decides to change his life after discovering a letter written to him by John Lennon – prompting him to track down his biological son, whom he’s never met. Fogelman has also written the screenplay. Jessie Nelson (I Am Sam, The Story of Us, Corinna, Corinna) is producing the project with Nimitt Mankad (Today’s Special). The movie also features songs by John Lennon. Shapiro and Adams previously co-wrote the original song Stay Alive for last year’s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Danny Collins, which was originally entitled Imagine, is set to be released in 2015 by Bleecker Street. For updates on the dramedy, visit the official movie website.
Shapiro’s most recent feature St. Vincent starring Bill Murray and Melissa McCarthy is currently playing in theaters. The composer of such films as The Devil Wears Prada, Tropic Thunder, Marley & Me and Dodgeball also has the action comedy Spy coming up. The film is written and directed by Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, The Heat) and stars Melissa McCarthy, Rose Byrne, Jason Statham, Jude Law, Miranda Hart, Nargis Fakhri, Bobby Cannavale, Nia Long, Peter Serafinowicz, Björn Gustafsson, Morena Baccarin, Allison Janney and Zach Woods. The movie follows a CIA analyst who goes out into the field for the first time. Feig is also producing the project with Peter Chernin (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, New Girl, Oblivion), Jenno Topping (28 Days, Country Strong) and Jessie Henderson. Spy is set to be released on May 22, 2015 by 20th Century Fox.
