Shore is not orchestrating and conducting again? So, this means the return of Conrad Pope and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra? Because I read that the relationship between Howard Shore and Peter Jackson is shaken, and he was using Pope to modify and rewrite Shore’s music.
No, Shore’s music is kept just like he wrote it. And yes, Conrad Pope has been and he’s still recording with the NZO for TBOTFA.
There is, as far as I am aware, no bad-blood between Shore and Jackson – that whole “King Kong” debacle was amicable. This comes down to Shore himself being reluctant to fly over to New Zealand to record the score. As with “The Desolation of Smaug” Shore sent reliable Orchestrator and Conductor across the sea to oversee matters; corresponding which other on Skype.
I’m sure there are other stories that differ, but this is what I have come to learn of the situation.
Still, I am looking forward the conclusion of his magum opus, and final trip to Middle Earth.
Can you tell me whether there will be a special edition release of this soundtrack? I’m afraid it’s not displayed on any site as of now.
Yes there will be – the physical CD of the special edition is available to pre-order on Amazon now (has a green cover). Not yet available for digital pre-order.
