Antonio Pinto is composing the music for the upcoming sports drama McFarland. The film is directed by Niki Caro and stars Kevin Costner, Maria Bello, Morgan Saylor and Carlos Pratts. The movie is set in the 1980s and tells the true story of a high school coach who comes to the predominantly Latino town of McFarland, Calif. and creates a high school track team that becomes a championship-winning dynasty. Mark Ciardi & Gordon Gray (Miracle, The Rookie, Million Dollar Arm) are producing the project for Mayhem Pictures. William Broyles Jr. (Apollo 13, Planet of the Apes, Cast Away) has written the final version of the script based on a previous version by Grant Thompson. Pinto and Caro have previously collaborated on the 2009 romance A Heavenly Vintage. The director has also collaborated with such composers as Gustavo Santaolalla (North Country) and Lisa Gerrard (Whale Rider). McFarland is set to be released on November 21, 2014 by Walt Disney Pictures.
As previously reported, Pinto (City of God, Lord of War, Snitch) also has the the drama Trash directed by Stephen Daldry and starring Rooney Mara coming up.
