Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the action thriller 3 Days to Kill directed by McG and starring Kevin Costner, Hailee Steinfeld, Amber Heard and Connie Nielsen. Guillaume Roussel (Crossing Lines) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced yet. 3 Days to Kill follows a dangerous international spy who is determined to give up his high-stakes life to finally build a closer relationship with his estranged wife and daughter, whom he’s previously kept at arm’s length to keep out of danger. Also opening wide is the historical action epic Pompeii directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and starring Kit Harington, Carrie-Anne Moss, Emily Browning, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jared Harris, Paz Vega and Kiefer Sutherland. Clinton Shorter (District 9, 2 Guns, Contraband) has composed the film’s original score. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music digitally earlier this week. Opening in limited release is the romantic drama In Secret directed by Charlie Stratton and stars Elizabeth Olsen, Oscar Isaac, Tom Felton and Jessica Lange. The film’s original music is composed by Gabriel Yared (The Talented Mr. Ripley, Cold Mountain, The English Patient). A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music has been released through Roadside Attractions. Also opening in select cities is the indie romance Barefoot directed by Andrew Fleming and starring Evan Rachel Wood, Scott Speedman and J.K. Simmons. Michael Penn (Girls, Masters of Sex, Boogie Nights) has composed the film’s original score. No soundtrack album has been announced. Barefoot follows the black sheep” son of a wealthy family who meets a free-spirited but sheltered woman and takes her home for his brother’s wedding to convince his family that he’s finally straightened out his life. Another limited release this weekend is the horror thriller Almost Human written and directed by Joe Begos and starring Graham Skipper, Josh Ethier, Vanessa Leigh, Susan T. Travers and Anthony Amarall III. Andy Garfield (Frozen, Hatchet, Hatchet II) has composed the film’s music. No word yet on a soundtrack release. Almost Human takes place in a rural Maine town that is hit by a string of axe murders and alien abductions. The indie production premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival and was picked up by IFC Midnight for domestic distribution. Also opening in limited release is the coming-of-age comedy drama Angels in Stardust written and directed by William Robert Carey and starring Alicia Silverstone, Billy Burke and AJ Michalka. The film’s original score is composed by John Hunter (Big Stan, Tekken).
