Laurent Eyquem is set to score the upcoming thriller Red Squad. John McTiernan will be directing the film, which follows a former DEA agent with a rogue streak and his select team of mercenaries who descend upon a Mexican border town to neutralize a drug lord. The movie’s cast is expected to be announced soon. Rionda Del Castro is producing the Hannibal Classics production with Michael Mendelsohn. Eyquem has previously scored the production company’s thriller Tokarev starring Nicolas Cage. McTiernan has previously collaborated with composers including Michael Kamen (Die Hard), Alan Silvestri (Predator), Jerry Goldsmith (The 13th Warrior), Basil Poledouris (The Hunt for Red October), Bill Conti (The Thomas Crown Affair) and Klaus Badelt (Basic). Eyquem has recently received three nominations from the International Film Music Critics Association, including nominations for his score for Ron Maxwell’s Copperhead in the Best Original Score for a Drama Film category, as well as for Film Composer of the Year and Breakthrough Film Composer of the Year. The composer also is attached to score the action drama USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage. The film will be directed by Mario Van Peebles (New Jack City, Redemption Road) and centers on the ship being sunk the South Pacific in July 1945 after delivering critical parts for the first atomic bomb. Hannibal Classics’ Cam Cannon and Richard Rionda Del Castro have written the screenplay and Del Castro is also producing the project with Michael Mendelsohn. The movie is set to shoot this June in Alabama.
As previously announced, Eyquem’s other upcoming projects include the action thriller Momentum starring Olga Kurylenko & Vincent Cassel and the documentary mini-series 14 Diaries of the Great War, which begins airing in several international territories over the next few months.
