paradise-lostMax Richter has been hired to score the upcoming romantic thriller Paradise Lost. The movie is written and directed by Andrea di Stefano and stars Josh Hutcherson as a young American surfer who takes a trip to Colombia and falls in love with a beautiful local girl. Their romance seems idyllic until he meets her uncle, drug lord Pablo Escobar, played by Benicio Del Toro. Claudia Traisac, Carlos Bardem, Brian Geraghty and Ana Girardot are co-starring. Dimitri Rassam (Upside Down) is producing the Pathe, Chapter 2, Roxbury Pictures and Nexus Factory production. Paradise Lost is expected to premiere later this year.

Richter whose previous scoring credits include Waltz with BashirDisconnectWadjda and Perfect Sense and whose music was featured in films including Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island and Marc Forster’s Stranger Than Fiction has also composed the music for Ari Folman’s The Congress, which was picked up by Drafthouse Films for a domestic release later this year, as well as the Indian romance The Lunchbox, which is set to be released on February 28 by Sony Pictures Classics. He also scored the documentary The Green Prince directed by Nadav Schirman, which just premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
