doyle-impressions-of-americaMax Richter has been tapped to score the sci-fi thriller Last Days on Mars. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Ruairi Robinson who received an Academy Award nomination for his short Fifty Percent Grey and stars Liev Schreiber, Olivia Williams, Romola Garai, Elias Koteas, Tom Cullen, Goran Kostic and Johnny Harris. The movie centers on a group of astronauts on an exploratory mission to Mars who discover colonies of bacteria living deep within the permafrost. Clive Dawson has written the thriller’s screenplay based on a short story by Sydney J. Bounds. Michael Kuhn (The Duchess) is producing the project with Andrea Cornwell. Last Days on Mars is set to be released this fall in the UK. No word yet on a domestic release.

As previously reported, Richter also has the half live action and half animated feature The Congress directed by Ari Folman (Waltz with Bashir) coming up. The composer also scored the drama Disconnect starring Jason Bateman and Alexander Skarsgard, which is scheduled to be released next month. Also expected to be released later this year in the US is the Saudi Arabian drama Wadjda, which the composer scored last year.

Will the soundtrack be released? Because I’ve looked for it everywhere and can’t find it. It makes me angry because the film itself is phenomenal!
