Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

burt-wonderstoneOpening in most theaters is the comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone directed by Don Scardino and starring Steve Carell, Steve Buscemi, Jim Carrey, Olivia Wilde, Alan Arkin, James Gandolfini, Jay Mohr and Michael Bully Herbig. The film’s original music is composed by Lyle Workman (The 40-Year Old Virgin, Superbad). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. the-callAlso opening wide is the thriller The Call directed by Brad Anderson, Abigail Breslin, Michael Eklund, Justina Machado, Morris Chestnut, David Otunga and Michael Imperioli. John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, Iron Man 2, Elf) has composed the film’s original score. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring Debney’s music earlier this week. spring-breakersOpening in limited release is the drama/satire Spring Breakers written and directed by Harmony Korine and starring James Franco, Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine. Cliff Martinez (Drive, Traffic) and Skrillex have composed the film’s original score. Big Beat/Atlantic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring selections from the score, as well as other tracks by Skrillex, Rick Ross, Waka Flocka Flame, Gucci Mane, Meek Mill, Ellie Goulding and James Franco. realitysoundtrackAlso opening in limited release is the Italian dark comedy Reality written and directed by Garrone (Gomorrah) about a man who dreams of being a contestant on a reality show. The film’s original score is composed by Alexandre Desplat (The King’s Speech, Argo). A soundtrack album featuring Desplat’s score, as well as the film’s songs performed by Emilia Majello and Franco Ricciardi & Ivan Granatino has been released last fall. upside-downAnother limited release this weekend is the sci-fi-fi romance Upside Down directed by Juan Diego Solanas and starring Kirsten Dunst, Jim Sturgess, Jayne Heitmeyer, Larry Day and Holly O’Brien. French composer Benoit Charest (The Triplets of Bellville) has written the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced at this point. mindless-behaviorAlso opening in select cities is the concert documentary Mindless Behavior: All Around the World directed by Steven Goldfried about the hit teen R&B/hip-hop boy band Mindless Behavior. Grammy-nominated composer Ryan Shore (Prime, Spy Hunter) has composed the film’s original score. No word on a soundtrack album.     You reported a few months ago Mark Isham had replaced on “Upside down”; did you get the name wrong or was Benoit Charset’s score reinstated?
