Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the zombie romance Warm Bodies directed by Jonathan Levine and starring Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, Rob Corddry, Dave Franco, Analeigh Tipton and John Malkovich. The film’s music is composed by Marco Beltrami (Scream, 3:10 to Yuma) and Buck Sanders (The Hurt Locker, Max Payne). Despite featuring a significant amount of original score, as well as numerous songs, no soundtrack album has been announced at this point. Also opening wide is the action thriller Bullet to the Head directed by Walter Hill and starring Sylvester Stallone, Sung Kang, Jason Momoa, Sarah Shahi and Christian Slater. Steve Mazzaro has composed the film’s original score and Hans Zimmer has produced the music. A soundtrack album featuring Mazzaro’s score has been released earlier digitally this week and will be coming out on February 19 on CD by Varese Sarabande. Opening in semi-wide is the crime comedy Stand Up Guys directed by Fisher Stevens (The Cove) and starring Al Pacino, Christopher Walken and Alan Arkin. The film’s score is composed by Lyle Workman (The 40-Year Old Virgin, Superbad). Lakeshore Records has released two different soundtrack albums. The song album features new original songs by Jon Bon Jovi (Old Habits Die Hard, Not Running Anymore), as well as tracks by Baby Huey and The Babysitters, Gary Clark, Jr., Elvin Bishop, Muddy Waters and Wayne Cochran & CC Riders (click here for the full details). Opening in limited release is the documentary Sound City directed by Dave Grohl about the unsung recording studio, which housed a one-of-a-kind console and features interviews and performances from the musicians who recorded numerous rock albums at the studio, including Fleetwood Mac, Neil Young, Rick Springfield, Tom Petty, Metallica and Nirvana. A soundtrack album featuring 24 original songs by artists including Paul McCartney, Grohl’s former Nirvana and current Foo Fighters bandmates, Stevie Nicks, Rick Springfield, Trent Reznor and Joshua Homme of Queens of the Stone Age will be released next month by Roswell Records. Also opening in limited release is the thriller Girls Against Boys written and directed by Austin Chick and starring Danielle Panabaker, Nicole LaLiberte, Andrew Howard, Michael Stahl-David and Liam Aiken. The film’s music is composed by Nathan Larson (Boy’s Don’t Cry, Margin Call). No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie follows a student who, after a brutal sexual assault, teams up with a fellow nightclub bartender. The movie premiered at last year’s SXSW Film Festival and is being released in select cities by Anchor Bay Films. To check out the film’s trailer, click here.
Another limited release is the horror film The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia directed by Tom Elkins and starring Chad Michael Murray, Abigail Spencer, Katee Sackhoff , Emily Alyn Lind and Cicely Tyson. Michael Wandmacher (Drive Angry, Piranha) has composed the film’s original score. No soundtrack album has been released at this point. The movie based on a true story of a young family imperiled by mysterious entities inhabiting their property in the rural South is being released by Lionsgate.
