Three new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the fantasy action adventure Hansel & Gretel Witch Hunters directed by Tommy Wirkola and starring Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, Famke Janssen and Peter Stormare. The film’s music is composed by Atli Orvarsson (Vantage Point, The Eagle, The Fourth Kind). A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music is now available digitally and will be released next month on La-La Land Records. Also opening wide this weekend is the action thriller Parker directed by Taylor Hackford and starring Jason Statham, Jennifer Lopez, Nick Nolte and Michael Chicklis. The film’s score is composed by David Buckley (The Town, The Forbidden Kingdom). A soundtrack album featuring Buckley’s music is now available digitally and will be released next week on Varese Sarabande. The third wide release of the week is the ensemble comedy Movie 43 directed by Steven Brill, Peter Farrelly & Brett Ratner and starring Johnny Knoxville, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Jason Sudeikis, Kate Winslet, Elizabeth Banks, Emma Stone, Liev Schreiber, Anna Faris and Naomi Watts. The film features music composed by William Goodrum, David J. Hodge, Christophe Beck & Leo Birenberg and Tyler Bates. No soundtrack album has been announced. Opening in limited release is the horror comedu John Dies At the End directed by Don Coscarelli and starring Paul Giamatti, Chase Williamson, Rob Mayes, Clancy Brown, Glynn Turman, Doug Jones, Daniel Roebuck, Jonny Weston and Fabianne Therese. Brian Tyler (Fast Five, Battle: Los Angeles) has composed the film’s original score. La-La Land Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music on February 12, 2013. The full album details will be posted on this site soon. John Dies At the End premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival and has been acquired by Magnolia Pictures/Magnet Releasing. Also opening in limited release is the indie drama Knife Fight written and directed by Bill Guttentag and starring Rob Lowe, Julie Bowen, Eric McCormack, Jennifer Morrison, Jaime Chung, Saffron Burrows and Carrie-Anne Moss. The film’s music is composed by Sister Bliss is best known for her work with Rollo Armstrong as part of the electronica band Faithless. No soundtrack album is currently available. The movie premiered at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival and is being released by IFC Films. The film will also be released on VOD next week.
