Only one new movie is opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in almost 3000 theaters is the romantic comedy Playing for Keeps directed by Gabriele Muccino and starring Gerard Butler, Jessica Biel, Judy Greer, Dennis Quaid, Uma Thurman and Catherine Zeta-Jones. The film’s music is written by Italian composer Andrea Guerra (Letters to Juliet, Hotel Rwanda) who has previously collaborated with director on The Pursuit of Happiness. Opening in limited release is the period comedy drama Hyde Park on Hudson directed by Roger Michell and starring Bill Murray, Laura Linney, Olivia Colman, Samuel West, Elizabeth Marvel, Elizabeth Wilson, Eleanor Bron and Olivia Williams. Jeremy Sams (The Mother, Enduring Love) has composed the film’s original score. Relativity Music Group will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score next Tuesday. Also opening in select cities is the comedy Lay the Favorite directed by Stephen Frears and starring Rebecca Hall, Bruce Willis, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Joshua Jackson, Laura Prepon and Vince Vaughn. The film’s music is composed by James Seymour Brett (Planet 51, Merlin). A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score is reportedly in the works. The film premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and was picked up by the Weinstein Company for a release through the Radius label. The movie is also available on VOD.
Another movie opening in limited release is the drama Deadfall directed by Stefan Ruzowitzky and starring Eric Bana, Olivia Wilde, Charlie Hunnam, Sissy Spacek and Kris Kristofferson. Marco Beltrami (3:10 to Yuma, Scream) has composed the film’s score. No soundtrack album has been announced yet. Deadfall follows a brother and sister who are fleeing after a casino heist and meet a young boxer just out of prison. The film premiered at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival and has been picked up by Magnolia Pictures for domestic distribution. Finally, also opening in select markets is the indie romantic comedy Cheerful Weather for the Wedding direccted by Donald Rice and starring Elizabeth McGovern, Felicity Jones, Luke Treadaway, Mackenzie Crook, Zoe Tapper, and Ellie Kendrick. The film’s music is composed by Michael Price (Sherlock, Horrid Henry: The Movie). No soundtrack album is currently available. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival this past spring and was picked up by IFC Films for US distribution.
