Chad Fischer is scoring the upcoming drama Chasing Mavericks. The film stars Jonny Weston as Jay Moriarty, a world champion surfer from Northern California who made his reputation surfing Mavericks north of Half Moon Bay before dying in a diving accident at age 22. Gerard Butler stars as Frosty Hesson, the local legend who took Jayunder his wing in order to train him. Taylor Handley, Elisabeth Shue and Abigail Spencer are co-starring. The true life story is directed by Curtis Hanson (L.A. Confidential, 8 Mile) and Michael Apted (The World is Not Enough, Nell) who took over the final weeks of production. Kario Salem (The Score) and Brandon Hooper have written the film’s script. Hanson is also producing the Fox 2000 and Walden Media production with Hooper, Mark Johnson (The Chronicles of Narnia, Rain Man) and Jim Meenaghan. Fischer whose previous credits include the indie hit Garden State, as well as the ABC dramas Private Practice and Scandal also has the comedy 10 Years starring Channing Tatum, Rosario Dawson, Justin Long, Kate Mara, Oscar Isaac, Ron Livingstone, Max Minghella, Lynn Collins, Ari Graynor, Chris Pratt and Antony Mackie coming up. Anchor Bay Films will release the movie, which premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival on September 14, 2012. Check out the trailer below.
