Three new studio features are opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the action thriller The Bourne Legacy directed and co-written by Tony Gilroy and starring Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach, Albert Finney, Scott Glenn, David Strathairn and Joan Allen. The film’s score is composed by James Newton Howard. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as a new version of Moby’s track Extreme Ways has been released on Back Lot Music and Varese Sarabande. Also opening wide is the political comedy The Campaign directed by Jay Roach and starring Will Ferrell, Zach Galifianakis, Jason Sudekis, Brian Cox, Dylan McDermott, Sarah Baker, Katherine LaNasa, Dan Akroyd and John Lithgow. The film’s score is composed by Theodore Shapiro who previously worked with Roach on the comedy Dinner for Schmucks and this year’s HBO drama Game Change. A soundtrack album was set to be released by WaterTower Music as listed in the film’s credits, but no announcement has been made yet. Already in theaters since Wednesday is the dramedy Hope Springs directed by David Frankel and starring Meryl Streep, Tommy Lee Jones and Steve Carell about a middle-aged couple who attend an intense counseling program to examine the intimacy issues threatening their marriage. The Sony Pictures release marks Theodore Shapiro‘s second film to open this week. The composer has previously scored Frankel’s last three features The Devil Wears Prada, Marley & Me and The Big Year. Opening in limited release is the indie comedy Goats directed by Christopher Neil and starring David Duchovny, Vera Farmiga, Ty Burrell and Graham Phillips. The film’s original score is composed by Jason Schwartzman and Woody Jackson. A soundtrack album featuring the film’s score has been released digitally earlier this week on Coconut Records. Also opening in select cities is the indie drama Red Hook Summer directed by Spike Lee and starring Clarke Peters, Jules Brown, Toni Lysaith, Nate Parker, James Ransone and Thomas Jefferson Byrd. The film’s score is composed by Bruce Hornsby who makes his film scoring debut on the project. A soundtrack album featuring the score has been released last week.
