George Fenton is reuniting with director Ken Loach on the upcoming comedy drama The Angels’ Share. The film starring John Henshaw, William Ruane, Gary Maitland, Roger Allam,Paul Brannigan, Siobhan Reilly and Jasmin Riggins follows a new father who narrowly avoids a prison sentence and starts a whisky distillery. Frequent Loach collaborator Paul Laverty (The Wind That Shakes the Barley, Sweet Sixteen) has written the screenplay and Rebecca O’Brien (My Name is Joe) is producing the movie. The Angels’ Share is rumored to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May and is set for a release in the UK on June 1, 2012 followed by an opening in other European countries later in June. No word yet on a domestic release date.
Fenton on Loach have worked together numerous times over the last two decades, most recently on the drama Route Irish, which opened in Europe last year and is still awaiting a release in the US.
