Experimental music artist and singer/songwriter Dean Blunt has made his feature scoring debut on the upcoming documentary Dahomey. Together with French musician/composer Wally Badarou (Countryman, Boesman and Lena, The Lunatic), he has co-scored the Mati Diop-directed movie, which follows the French/Senegalese filmmaker as she explores the issue of colonization through the story of 26 precious artworks restituted to Benin in late 2021 after being stolen by French colonizers in 1892, when the African country was called the Kingdom of Dahomey. Diop (Atlantics, A Thousand Suns) is also producing the the Les Films du Bal and Fanta Sy production with Eve Robin & Judith Lou Lévy (Ahed’s Knee). Blunt has previously composed the music for Diop’s 2020 short In My Room. Dahomey will premiere next week at the 2024 Berlin Film Festival.
