Composer/saxophonist  Branford Marsalis is reuniting with director George C. Wolfe (Lackawanna Blues, Nights in Rodanthe) on the upcoming Netflix original film Rustin. The biographical drama stars Colman Domingo as activist Bayard Rustin who organized the 1963 March on Washington while being forced into the background because of his sexuality. Chris Rock, Glynn Turman, Aml Ameen, CCH Pounder, Gus Halper, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Michael Potts and Johnny Ramey are also starring in the movie, which is written by Julian Breece and Dustin Lance Black (Milk, Under the Banner of Heaven) based on a story by Breece. Wolfe is also producing the Higher Ground and Bold Choices production with Bruce Cohen (American Beauty, Silver Linings Playbook) and Tonia Davis (Underwater, Ava Twist, Scientist). Marsalis has previously scored Wolfe’s last two features, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Rustin will be released in select theaters on November 3, 2023 before premiering on November 17 on Netflix.
