Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the superhero movie The Flash directed by Andy Muschietti and starring Ezra Miller, Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, Michael Keaton, Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdú and Kiersey Clemons. The film’s original music is composed by Benjamin Wallfisch (Shazam!, It, Blade Runner 2049, The Invisible ManHidden Figures). Also opening wide this weekend is the animated feature Elemental directed by Peter Sohn and starring Leah Lewis, Mamoudou Athie, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ronnie del Carmen, Catherine O’Hara, Shila Ommi, Mason Wertheimer and Joe Pera. Thomas Newman (American Beauty, Finding NemoWall-E, The Shawshank Redemption, Skyfall1917) has composed the film’s original score. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score and an original song performed by Lauv today. Another movie opening wide this weekend is the horror comedy The Blackening directed by Tim Story and starring Grace Byers, Jermaine Fowler, X Mayo, Melvin Gregg, Yvonne Orji, Jay Pharoah, Dewayne Perkins, Antoinette Robertson and Sinqua Walls. The film’s original music is composed by Dexter Story (I Do… Until I Don’t). No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie, which follows a group of Black friends who reunite for a Juneteenth weekend getaway and find themselves trapped in a remote cabin with a twisted killer, premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival and is being distributed by Lionsgate.

Opening in select theaters today before expanding nationwide next Friday, June 23, is the comedy drama Asteroid City written and directed by Wes Anderson and starring Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Bryan Cranston, Tilda Swinton, Edward Norton, Liev Schreiber, Adrien Brody, Hope Davis, Maya Hawke, Rupert Friend, Steve Carell, Hong Chau, Matt Dillon, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie and Jeff Goldblum. Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Shape of Water,  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The King’s Speech) has composed the film’s original score. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score and other music from the movie (to be released by ABKCO Records) is expected to be announced soon. Opening in select theaters and on VOD is the comedy Maggie Moore(s) directed by John Slattery and starring Jon Hamm, Tina Fey, Happy Anderson, Micah Stock, Mary Holland and Nick Mohammed. The film’s original music is composed by Ben Sollee (Land, Maidentrip, Beauty Mark). No word on a soundtrack release.
