Devonté Hynes (aka Blood Orange) (Queen & Slim, Palo Alto) has revealed in a recent interview with Variety that he is composing the score for the upcoming drama Passing. The film marks the feature directorial debut of actress Rebecca Hall and stars Tessa Thompson, Ruth Negga, André Holland and Alexander Skarsgård. The movie is based on the Harlem Renaissance novel by Nella Larsen and ed the unexpected reunion of two high school friends, each of whom can “pass” as white but choose to live on opposite sides of the color line in 1928 Harlem. Hall also wrote the screenplay and is producing the project with Margot Hand (Brittany Runs a Marathon, Meadowland) for Picture Films, as well as Nina Yang Bongiovi & Forest Whitaker (Sorry to Bother You, Dope) for Significant Productions. Passing is currently in post-production and is expected to premiere in 2020.

As previously reported, Hynes also recently scored Luca Guadagnino’s new HBO series We Are Who We Are , which just premiered last night, as well as Gia Coppola’s Mainstream, which premiered last week at the Venice Film Festival.
