Dustin O’Halloran and Hauschka (aka Volker Bertelmann) have signed on to score the upcoming comedy drama The Art of Racing in the Rain. The film is directed by Simon Curtis (My Week with Marilyn, Goodbye Christopher Robin) and stars Milo Ventimiglia, Amanda Seyfried, Gary Cole, Kathy Baker and Ryan Kiera Armstrong. The movie is based on Garth Stein’s best-selling novel of the same title and centers on a family dog (voiced by Kevin Costner) who evaluates his life through the lessons learned by his human owner, a professional race-car driver. Mark Bomback (Dawn for/Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, The Wolverine) wrote the screenplay. Neal H. Moritz (Fast & Furious series, 21/22 Jump Street, I Am Legend), Patrick Dempsey and Tania Landau are producing the Fox 2000 production. O’Halloran & Hauschka have previously co-scored 2016’s Lion, for which they received their first Academy Award nomination, as well as The Current War, which is currently awaiting a release date. The Art of Racing in the Rain is currently in post-production and is expected to be released in 2019.
O’Halloran’s recent projects also include Marc Turtletaub’s Puzzle, which is currently playing in theaters, as well as Fox’s drama The Hate U Give, which will be released on October. Hauchka also has the thriller Hotel Mumbai, (premiering in September at the Toronto Film Festival) and the drama Ashes in the Snow, coming up. He also as recently scored German thriller What Doesn’t Kill Us (Was uns nicht umbringt) written and directed by Sandra Nettelbeck and starring Beyond Zirner, Mark Waschke, Johanna ter Steege, Deborah Kaufmann, Barbara Auer and Christian Berkel. The movie will premiere next month at the Locarno Film Festival.
