Will Bates is composing the music for the upcoming Hulu original series The Looming Tower. The show is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book of the same title by Lawrence Wright and stars Jeff Daniels, Tahar Rahim, Michael Stuhlbarg, Peter Sarsgaard, Wrenn Schmidt, Bill Camp, Louis Cancelmi, Virginia Kull, Ella Rae Peck and Sullivan Jones. The drama traces the rising threat of Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda in the late 1990s and how the rivalry between the FBI and CIA during that time may have inadvertently set the path for the tragedy of 9/11. Dan Futterman (Foxcatcher, Capote) is the project’s showrunner and is also executive producing the Legendary Television production with Alex Gibney (Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room), Lawrence Wright (The Siege), Craig Zisk (Weeds) and Adam Rapp (Winter Passing). Bates has previously collaborated with Gibney on such documentaries as We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks, Going Clear: Scientology & the Prison of Belief, Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine and Zero Days. The Looming Tower will premiere on February 28 on Hulu.

As previously reported, Bates (Another Earth, I Origins, Imperium) also has the NBC drama Rise coming up and also continues to score Hulu’s The Path and Syfy’s The Magicians.  He also scored the feature coming-of-age drama Hot Summer Nights starring Timothee Chalamet & Maika Monroe, which premiered at last year’s SXSW Film Festival and will be released later this year by A24.
