Premiering on Wednesday, August 2, is the USA anthology series The Sinner created by Derek Simonds and starring Jessica Biel, Bill Pullman and Christopher Abbott. Ronit Kirchman is composing the show’s original music. The 8-parter is based on the novel of the same title by Petra Hammesfahr and follows a young mother who, when overcome by an inexplicable fit of rage, commits a startling act of violence and to her horror has no idea why. Premiering on Friday, August 4, is the thriller Message from the King directed by Fabrice Du Welz and starring Chadwick Boseman, Luke Evans, Alfred Molina, Teresa Palmer, Natalie Martinez and Diego Josef. The film’s original music is composed by Vincent Cahay and Felix Penny. The thriller follows a man from Cape Town who infiltrates a sprawling network of lowlifes and elites in Los Angeles to avenge his sister’s murder. The movie premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and will be available to stream on Friday on Netflix.

Missing from last week’s TV music roundup was the Netflix original film The Incredible Jessica James written and directed by Jim Strouse and starring Jessica Williams, Chris O’Dowd, Noël Wells, Lakeith Stanfield, Taliyah Whitaker, Zabryna Guevara, Sarah Jones, Megan Ketch. Keegan DeWitt (I’ll Follow You In My Dreams, The Hero, Morris From America, The Hero) has composed the movie’s original music. The comedy revolves around a struggling New York City playwright makes an unlikely connection with a divorced app designer she meets on a blind date. The movie premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and premiered this past Friday on Netflix.
