Michael Giacchino is currently composing the music for Walt Disney Animation Studios’ upcoming feature Zootopia. The film is directed by Byron Howard (Tangled, Bolt) & Rich Moore (Wreck-It-Ralph) and features the voices of Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, J.K. Simmons, Octavia Spencer, Jenny Slate and Tommy Chong. The movie is set in a civilization led by animals devoid of human interference, complete with habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown. Clark Spencer (Lilo & Stitch, Bolt) is producing the project and John Lasseter is executive producing. The film marks Giacchino’s first project for Disney Animation. He previously scored numerous movies for Pixar, including Up, The Incredibles, Ratatouille and Inside Out. Zootopia will be released on March 4, 2016 by Walt Disney Pictures. Visit the official movie website for updates.
Giacchino’s other upcoming projects include Star Trek Beyond. He is also attached to reunite with director Matt Reeves on the sci-fi sequel War for the Planet of the Apes. The movie starring Andy Serkis, Judy Greer and Woody Harrelson is set to be released on July 14, 2017 by 20th Century Fox.
Well, I be damned. Ain’t that completely out of the blue? It felt almost certain that this was going to Jackman (and I thought just the same when Elfman got the scoring gig for Goosebumps). Surely it means that Jackman is all invested on the next Cap as well as Uncharted, right? Quite curious it didn’t go to anyone else within RCP.
Regardless, couldn’t be happier with the composer choice. Oh this flick is going to be quite a playground for team Giacchino and their taste for crazy-@$$ track titles.
Brad Bird said on Twitter that Giacchino is doing “The Incredibles 2”, so that’s also a future project.
Thank god. No jackman
Really?! Jackman always excelled at animation, especially Disney ones (Winnie the Pooh, Wreck-It Ralph & Big Hero 6).
I agree. It is what he does best. I take his works in this genre over those industrial soundscape he makes for his live-action projects any day.
I think Henry Jackman is focusing fully on Captain America: Civil War, The Man in The High Castle and the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and 2.
Is he already confirmed on Infinity War I and II? Oh, crap.
No. jackman is mediocre at best
To each their own I guess.
I initially thought John Powell was gonna score this movie as rumours said initially, and it was sad to see him get out of it since he’s my favourite film score composer and I absolutely LOVE his scores, but eh. Michael Giacchino’s also very good composer, he did very well this year with many movies. He also likes to bring awesome themes for their movies.
Giacchino is the right choice IMHO. There will be other projects where Jackman can prove his talent…
