Deadline is reporting that Dave Stewart (of Eurythmics) is writing original songs for the upcoming movie musical Ebony McQueen. He will also co-score the film with A.R. Rahman (Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours, The Hundred-Foot Journey, Couples Retreat). Shekhar Kapur (Elizabeth, The Four Feathers) is set to direct the drama, which is based on Stewart’s album of the same name and is inspired by the rock musician’s 1960s-early ’70s teen years in the North East of England and the discs and soundtracks that sparked his journey to becoming a musician.

‘Zombie Broadway’ to Feature Music by Dave Stewart and Michael Bradford
Dave Stewart and Michael Bradford are writing original songs and music for the upcoming horror musical Zombie Broadway. The film based on Stewart’s own graphic novel of the same title is set in a Zombie-ridden, apocalyptic New York where the fate of the city lies in the hands of the only surviving musical theatre troop putting on the show of their lives. The movie is being described as Rocky Horror Picture Show meets Bullets Over Broadway. Cole Haddon (NBC’s Dracula) is writing the screenplay and Pam Williams & David Jacobson (Lee Daniels’ The Butler) are producing the project alongside Stewart. The former Eurythmics member has previously scored a number of film, including Robert Altman’s Cookie’s Fortune, Paul Verhoeven’s Showgirls and Ted Demme’s Beautiful Girls.
Johnny Marr, Michael Einziger & Dave Stewart Join ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Music Team
Sony Pictures announced today that Johnny Marr, Michael Einziger and Dave Stewart have joined the music team for the superhero sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Hans Zimmer and Pharrell Williams have previously been announced to score the film directed by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Paul Giamatti, Dane DeHaan, Denis Leary, Colm Feore, Chris Cooper, Sally Field and Felicity Jones. Johnny Marr who is best known as a co-songwriter and founding member of The Smiths has previously collaborated with Zimmer as a guitarist on Christopher Nolan’s Inception. Einziger who is the founder/guitarist/songwriter for the band Incubus has composed additional music for Zimmer’s The Lone Ranger score and Dave Stewart has worked with the composer on Dreamworks Animation’s Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted.

Hans Zimmer has teamed up with Dave Stewart, Ann Marie Coulhan and Sheila E. on Dreamworks Animation’s upcoming Madagascar 3. The artists have recently recorded music for the animated sequel in London. Eurythmics founder Dave Stewart has previously worked on a number of movies as a score composer and songwriter, including Robert Altman’s Cookie’s Fortune and the remake of Alfie, on which he worked together with Mick Jagger. Ann Marie Coulhain is an acclaimed violinist who recently collaborated with Stewart on recordings for the rock group SuperHeavy, which also includes film composer A.R. Rahman, Mick Jagger, Joss Stone and Damian Marley. Sheila E. is a drummer and percussionist, best known for her work with Prince, George Duke and Ringo Starr.
Dave Stewart Scoring ‘Unlawful Killing’
Dave Stewart has scored the documentary Unlawful Killing, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last Friday. The film about the deaths of Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed on August 31, 1997 is directed by British actor and filmmaker Keith Allen (Trainspotting, Shallow Grave). The movie mixes interviews with recreations of some of the key moments from the official inquest. According to the film’s press release, the questions the film asks will inevitably shake the public’s perceptions of how Diana and her partner Dodi Fayed died. Guest contributors on the film include Tony Curtis, Howard Stern, Kitty Kelley, Mohamed Al Fayed, Piers Morgan and Michael Mansfield QC.
