Thomas Newman & Alex Wurman Scoring Aaron Sorkin’s ‘The Newsroom’

The Newsroom is an excellent and intelligent TV series that is one of those rare series that appeals to the emotions, as well as to the intellect. It is a unique “subject” to make a TV series about an anchorman and the years he has dedicated to his career, as well as the complexity of his personal life and psyche – a man that people respect and tip-toe around, because he is not afraid to speak his mind and he pisses off a lot of people in the process, but at the end of the day, all is forgiven when he comes around and delivers the news in a very real and believable way that gets many, many viewers to “tune in”. This is a once-in-a-lifetime series that appeals to one’s own ethic and moral obligations and questions one’s beliefs and one’s own philosophies on just about every topic that each person faces day to day. I hope that The Newsroom will appeal to many viewers, because I would like to see it continue and to develop over many seasons, as such an interesting drama should have the chance to do. I only hope that there are many other viewers and fans of The Newsroom, such as myself, who will support it and keep it going for a long time to come. There are so few TV series that appeal to the intellect, such as this. I love intelligent writing, and the writing for this TV series is by far excellent in its own right. And my write-up on this series would not be complete without mentioning the very perfect music theme, written by Thomas Newman and Alex Wurman, whom are excellent composers. The main theme is inexplicably appropriate and “news” worthy — I put it up there with John Williams’ composition for the NBC or CBS (whichever it is) evening news — and I must add that it even surpasses John Williams’ music for the evening international news, which is saying a LOT! Hope to see much more of this great TV series.
