Director Matthias Schweighöfer has announced that Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight, Gladiator, Inception, The Lion King) and Steve Mazzaro (The Boss Baby, The Rhythm Section) will score the upcoming Netflix original film Army of Thieves. The prequel to Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead (scored by Tom Holkenborg) stars Schweighöfer himself, Nathalie Emmanuel, Guz Khan, Ruby O. Fee, Stuart Martin, Jonathan Cohen, Noemie Nakai and Peter Simonischek. The movie follows a small-town bank teller who gets drawn into the adventure of a lifetime when a mysterious woman recruits him to join a crew of Interpol’s most wanted criminals, attempting to heist a sequence of legendary, impossible-to-crack safes across Europe. Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum) wrote the screenplay. Schweighöfer is also producing the project with Zack & Deborah Snyder (Justice League, Wonder Woman), Wesley Coller and Dan Maag (What a Man). Zimmer has previously scored the Snyder-directed feature Man of Steel. Holkenborg (Junkie XL) has previously mentioned that he was involved in the film earlier this year. Army of Thieves will premiere later this year on Netflix.
Zimmer’s other upcoming projects include Dune Villeueve’s Dune, which will premiere next month at the Venice Film Festival before being released in U.S theaters on October 22, the James Bond film No Time to Die (to be released in the U.S. on October 8), Joseph Kosinski’s Top Gun: Maverick (scheduled to be released in theaters on November 19), Barry Jenkins’ The Lion King prequel, and Barry Levinson’s The Survivor, which will premiere in September at the Toronto Film Fetival.
More like Steve Mazzaro to score with a theme by Zimmer.
Why did Junkie XL get replaced the last minute? I wish he scored it!
