Carter Burwell (Fargo, Carol, True Grit, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Twilight, In Bruges) is attached to score the upcoming drama The Alchemist. The film marks the directorial debut of producer Kevin Frakes (Hereditary, Laggies) and will star Sebastian de Souza, Tom Hollander, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Jordi Molla, Youssef Kerkour and Ashraf Barhom. The movie is based on the novel of the same title by Paulo Coelho and tells the story of a young Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago on an epic quest for life-changing treasure. Will Smith and Jon Mone are producing the project for Westbrook Studios, alongside Frakes and Raj Singh (American Ultra) for PalmStar Media, as well as Gil Netter (Life of Pi, Phone Booth) for Netter Films. Burwell has previously scored the Netter-produced 2009 feature The Blind Side. The Alchemist is set to start shooting this September in Morocco and is tageting a release in 2022. (Deadline)
Burwell’s other upcoming projects also include Joel Coen’s The Tragedy of Macbeth, which will premiere later this year, as well as the second season of Apple TV+’s The Morning Show, which is set to debut on September 17.
